Matrifeminism (2024): A photo collection of my mom and sister, captured in Granville Island, Vancouver, BC. Taken with CANON EOS R7.

Matrifeminism captures my mother and sister as symbols of resilience and innocence, exploring femininity across generations. Each photograph contrasts their experiences, set against bold yellow backdrops that evoke both warmth and caution. This series delves into the shared yet unique burdens women carry and resonates with my themes of self-perception and societal standards.

One image shows my sister seated in shadows cast by a playground structure, forming a web around her—a metaphor for the societal expectations she’ll soon face. In another, she and my mother embrace, divided by light; my mother stands beneath the shadow of an unseen tree, symbolizing the weight of experience, while my sister remains untouched by darkness. Another frame shows my sister mid-jump, her youthful energy contrasting with my mother’s watchful, distant gaze. Matrifeminism honours the lineage of feminine strength and the journey of self-discovery shared yet uniquely experienced by women across generations.
